Alex Tirey, Founder

Simply put: I love food and there’s not much else to it.

I don’t seem to remember ever having that “a-ha” moment of clarity when I realized this. Instead, my passion for cooking has slowly grown over the years. With influences taken from my southern roots, the techniques I learned from my mother and great aunt as a little girl, personal dietary restrictions, and more, my constantly evolving food style seems to run the gamut. As a result, I allow my cooking to highlight the wondrous bounty of locally sourced, seasonal produce we have access to in New York. With these factors in mind, I have developed a relatively simple food philosophy for myself and my clients: to prepare real, natural foods, but to also enjoy everything in a reasonable and balanced way.

In 2017, I decided to form The Urban Larder, a dedication to all things food. Our goal is to aid in the development of a well-stocked larder whilst creating compelling, seasonal, and [mostly] nourishing fare. While I will still offer personal chef services, prepared meal delivery, cooking workshops, and more, our website is designed to be the virtual guide folks turn to when they are cooking. That said, our words are not meant to be a mandate. Not everything we suggest may fit your needs or preferences, but take from it what you enjoy and develop a larder of your very own!
